Volunteers wanted: Solidarity SuperWalk starts August 29
The Nevada State AFL-CIO is knocking doors every weekend between now and Election Day, and Local 1224 members are invited to walk with them. Next walk: Saturday, August 29 in Henderson. Breakfast, lunch, and training provided.
The Nevada State AFL-CIO is putting people on doorsteps between now and November, and they are asking union members to come do the knocking. The next Solidarity SuperWalk is Saturday, August 29 at the state federation's office in Henderson, and Local 1224 members are invited. No experience required. They train you before you go out, and they feed you at both ends of the day.

The day kicks off at 9:00 a.m., walkers head out to knock, and everyone comes back together for lunch at 12:30 p.m. Breakfast, lunch, and training are all provided. What a SuperWalk is
A SuperWalk is union members talking to other union members. The Nevada State AFL-CIO's own description of the day is short: kick off at 9:00 a.m., head out to talk with union members and their families about the candidates who have earned labor's support, and come back together for lunch at 12:30. Their ask of volunteers is just as short. Come out, bring a friend, and help build union power at the doors.
These are conversations with fellow union members, not cold calls to strangers. If you have never canvassed before, that is what makes it a reasonable place to start. The federation provides the training before anyone heads out.
It runs every weekend until Election Day
August 29 is not the only one. Local President Linda Ward Smith reports that the federation will be walking every weekend between now and Election Day, Tuesday, November 3. If this Saturday does not work, another one will.
Only the August 29 Las Vegas-area walk is posted so far. As the rest of the fall dates go up, they will appear on the Nevada AFL-CIO's event page, worth a bookmark if you want to pick your own Saturdays.
If you go
- RSVP first. Sign up on the Mobilize page so the organizers have a headcount going in.
- Get there for the 9:00 kickoff. That is when the day starts, and breakfast and training are both provided before walkers head out.
- Bring a friend. That is the federation's own ask, and walking with someone you know makes the first door much easier.
- Dress for a Las Vegas August. Not on the flyer, just the Local's advice: closed-toe walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, and more water than you think you need.
- Need an accommodation? The Nevada AFL-CIO asks that you reply to your registration email to confirm requirements or ask questions.

The Solidarity SuperWalk is organized by the Nevada State AFL-CIO. AFGE Local 1224 is sharing it as a volunteer opportunity for members who choose to participate on their own time, off duty and away from the workplace.
